Virginians laced up at Bryan Park to celebrate community and progress towards clean energy solutions across the Commonwealth.
RICHMOND, VA – The Chesapeake Climate Action Network (CCAN) hosted its second annual 5K for the Planet on Sunday, April 12, 2026, a community fun run and walk that brings Virginians together in support of bold climate action. This family-friendly event invited people of all ages to get outdoors, celebrate the planet, and raise funds for CCAN’s vital work toward a cleaner, more just energy future.
“We’re bringing together the Richmond community for a fun run to benefit our nonprofit and give folks an opportunity to take action and learn more about our organization,” said Victoria Higgins, Virginia Director, Chesapeake Climate Action Network.
Taking place along the scenic paved trails of Joseph Bryan Park, participants enjoyed a relaxed, festive morning of fitness, connection, and local activism, with community partners cheering along the course. The event concluded with a post-race celebration featuring medals and prizes and highlighted local climate organizations and businesses.
Top finishers and top fundraisers earned special prizes, making this both a challenge and a celebration of community spirit. Richmond Road Runners Club professionally timed the race, and all finishers received a commemorative medal.
“Seeing over 100 Richmonders come together for climate action gives us so much hope,” said Hadley Dzuray, Development Associate, Chesapeake Climate Action Network. “This event is a beautiful reminder that climate action starts right here in our communities. We’re so grateful to everyone who ran, walked, donated, and showed up to make a difference for our planet.”
This event is co-sponsored by Afterglow Coffee, Baltik’s Bagels, Virginia League of Conservation Voters, Counterspark, Virginia Sierra Club, Solar Energy Industries Association, Virginia Solar United Neighbors, Permit Power, and Ecomaids.
