Balcony Solar is Going Viral
Did you know that you can produce 10-30% of your home’s energy with solar panels that can plug into a regular wall outlet? No major electrical work required! Balcony solar is a great option for renters, folks who live in apartments or condos, homeowners with roofs that aren’t compatible with traditional solar systems, or for anyone who cannot afford the upfront cost of a complete solar system. In Germany, over one million households have already taken advantage of this technology, and together, they’re producing as much energy as a nuclear power plant! The only problem: most states in the U.S. don’t have the regulations in place to allow balcony solar systems to be installed.
Virginia Approves Balcony Solar!
On March 11, the Virginia General Assembly passed SB250 with strong bipartisan support (read more about our victory here!). The bill creates a legal roadmap for Virginians to install 1200 watt plug-in solar systems on their balconies or in their backyards. Utah was the first state to pass enabling legislation and similar bills are now being considered across America in more than 20 other states.
